Does your phone listen to you?

A theory floating around for a long time -- but is it real though?

Goodbye algorithms, hello RSS

I quit algorithm-fed feeds for good, first Instagram, then YouTube, and rebuilt my media diet around RSS. Centralizing every read, podcast and video into one dashboard and choosing my own subscriptions gave me back control over my attention and better overall mood.

Your Company Tracks Everything You Build. You Should Too.

After 13 years in tech across four countries, I was forgetting a lot of what I'd done. So I built a tool to fix it — and you can use it too.

"won't anyone think of the children!"

Seriously, i am beyond done these proposed legislations attempting to be passed under the guise of protecting kids when they are actually just surveillance capitalism. Talking (of course) about the new EU proposal (EU Kids Act) to basically kill indie games, linux distros and shared servers altogether while improving population surveillance massively. Wanna host a gaming server? you criminal.

Yes, social media and AI are crap for kids. And we should legislate. What we cannot be doing is forcing our entire population to scan their faces and IDs to 3rd party companies that will inevitably get hacked. Or defaulting to mass populational surveillance.

Bye-bye privacy, i’ll just go live in the forest to keep the rights to my own face i guess.

Open sourcing again

Today i did something i have not done in far too long: I spent my lunch time debugging a memory leak on a obsidian plugin i love. And then figured out a fix for it, will contribute to the repo so others can benefit. It’s something i’ve been wanting to do more of! Since becoming a full-time manager, i do miss coding quite a lot, lately it’s become my hobby out-of-hours :D Missed the feeling of accomplishment related to tangible code.

Geek toys acquired

Got myself a TRMNL as well as a Flipper Zero this month, getting back to coding in my free time. Gosh do I miss the feeling! Prepping to share some open sourced code soon 😊

Your most capable engineers are the ones currently struggling

The AI boom has been tough on juniors and the market for junior roles, however I am also starting to note its effects on more senior engineers as well. It’s a different set of challenges, but a far more insidious and immediate one. Things like review fatigue, increased capacity allocation towards detail-oriented work vs creative development and increasing incident rates related to human error. Currently researching more on this, and on potential AI usage contracts being a next logical step for teams that wish to maintain a healthy balance of innovation, staff happiness and product quality.
